Three Times
Ignition failure.
The module has
gone into safety
lockout.
Is
LP tank
full and properly
sized and are all gas
supply valves to
heater open?
Fill tank or resize if
necessary. Open all
gas supply valves
Yes
No
Is proper gas
pressure supplied
to heater?
Yes
Have
the burner
orifice, burner
casting and manifold
been checked for
blockage?
Yes
Does igniter
spark?
Is flame
sensor clean?
Is igniter
properly
connected?
Is igniter
properly gapped?
Yes
Yes
Yes
Close gas supply valve to heater.
Disconnect ignitor cable from ignition control.
Place the tip of a screwdriver about 1/8 in. from
where igniter cable was connected to control.
Turn heater on.
If spark does not jump from ignition control to
screwdriver, replace ignition control.
If spark is seen, replace the igniter/sensor assembly
Clean flame sensor
with emery cloth or
steel wool.
Connect
igniter to
igniter high
voltage cable.
Check gap between igniter
electrode and burner
casting. Gap should be
1/8 - 3/16 In. Repair or
replace as necessary.
Provide proper
pressure to heater
and check with a
gauge.

Remove orifice and
burner casting. Blow
out with compressed
air or clean with a
soft brush.

Is
flame sensor
insulator
cracked?
Yes
Is heater
properly
grounded?
Contact electrician.
System must be
grounded for
proper operation.

Yes
Is top of
burner casting
corroded?
No
Yes
Remove
corrosion.
Clean top of
casting with
emery cloth.
Replace igniter
and sensor
assembly.
Yes
Is
burner manifold
pressure read at
outlet of gas
valve?
Yes
Are high limit
switch contacts
closed?
If contacts are open,
reset the switch.
Determine cause of
high limit tripping.
See footnote at the
end of the
troubleshooting
section.
If pressure is not read,
check ohm reading
between wires of recitifier
plug as connected to gas
control. Reading should be
3 meg ohm. If reading
shows overload or 0 ohms,
replace the rectifier plug
and recycle the heater. If
problem still exists, replace
the gas control valve.

No
Is high limit
receiving 24 volts
from ignition
control?
A. Check for defective
wires, repair or replace.
B. If wires are good and
voltage is not delivered,
replace ignition control.
